Short description: The essence of biological monitoring and its place in strategies of ecological safety. Theory and practice of the environment and ecosystems’ state assessment with application of various groups of organisms (animals, plants, lichens, algae); procedures of selected methods of the environment biological measurement.
Full description: Biological monitoring and bioindication. Theoretical grounds of bioindication – characters of good bioindicators. Possibilities and limitations of phyto-indication, zoo-indication and lichens-indication in assessment of the environment state and ecological conditions of aquatic, swamp and terrestrial ecosystems; procedures of selected methods of the environment biological measurement. Monitoring of threatened animal, lichen and plant species populations and state of valuable habitats. Biological monitoring of some global ecological processes as climate changes and transformations of natural environment due to human activity

Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student characterizes biodiversity threats resulting from human activity and shows methods of their monitoring. Knows methods of ecological assessment of such sectors of environment, as: the air, superficial waters, valuable natural habitats, selected ecosystems, populations of threatened animal and plant species. He knows how to estimate anthropogenic pressure upon selected sectors of environment (the air, superficial waters, phytocoenoses, zoocoenoses, populations of selected species) Skills Can assess the values and quality of selected sectors of environment using living organisms and plan a system of their monitoring. Estimates results of human impacts upon the selected parts of environment with use of proper methods of biological measurements. Social competences Is aware of the individual and social responsibility for the environment state; is prepared to forecast environmental reactions to undertaken actions and plan their monitoring.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: grade obtained at classes (50%) + grade obtained at lectures (50%)
